Foreign tourists visiting Chile rises 30%.

More than 720,000 foreigners visited Chile last month, a 30 percent increase over January 2015, the Tourism Department said Wednesday.

“Several factors influence the increase of tourists in Chile. One of them is the growth in resources provided by the government to promote the country as a destination,” Economic Development and Tourism Minister Luis Felipe Cespedes said.

“This year we will have a 55 percent increase in resources for international promotion,” he said.

Cespedes also said that the strength of the dollar is “important to boost tourism and make it more attractive in comparison with other countries.”

The report showed that the flow of visitors from other South American countries increased by 35.2 percent, while the number of tourists from North America grew in January by 18.4 percent to 30,877 and the ranks of Europeans expanded 3.4 percent to 47,694. (Fuente: LA Herald Tribune)
