Argentina Awards Part of 4G Spectrum to Movistar.

Argentina has awarded wireless telecom company Movistar, a unit of Spain’s Telefonica, part of the spectrum needed to provide 4G service, a resolution published in the Official Bulletin on Tuesday said.

Telefonica Moviles Argentina received the 1710-1720 MHz and 2110-2120 MHz frequencies.

Movistar will provide 4G service in Argentina with Claro, a unit of Mexico’s America Movil, and Personal, which is part of Telecom Argentina, whose spectrum awards were confirmed last month.

Telefonica will have 10 business days to start meeting the auction conditions, such as making the required payment to the government and starting to build out infrastructure.

Movistar is now registered to provide 4G wireless service in Argentina.

The auction of wireless spectrum on Oct. 31 brought in $2.23 billion for the Argentine government

Of the four winning bidders, only Airlink, a unit of Argentina’s Vila Manzano Group, is still awaiting its spectrum award.
